Standardized Patient

Salus University is seeking per diem employees to fill the position of Standardized Patient.

Primary Function: A Standardized Patient or Simulated Patient (SP) is a person trained to simulate a patient/participant in a realistic and repeatable (or standardized) manner. This includes simulating (or acting out) a specific set of behaviors, symptoms, and problems related to illness or injury based on a patient case including:

  • Patient Interviews
  • Physical Examinations
  • Written and Verbal Communication
  • Patient Counseling
  • Patient Education

SPs are a valuable asset to clinical and non-clinical education by serving as the patient/participant, teacher, and evaluator. They are trained to evaluate the learners' performance and provide feedback on professionalism, communication skills, and clinical skills.

Essential Functions:

  • Accurately and consistently portray the physical, emotional, and mental characteristics of a simulated patient case for each encounter
  • Assess the learner based on the details of each encounter
  • Document the findings in written or verbal feedback form

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED

Physical Requirements:

  • Based on Program Specialty and need; physical requirements and tasks performed will be conveyed at time of recruitment
  • Typical cases include: ability to sit, walk, stand, stoop, bend or crouch

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • No experience necessary; prior experience with acting or role-playing a plus
  • Strong memory and recall skills
  • Strong communication skills, including interpersonal, verbal and written
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Proficient level of computer proficiency in word processing, email, and virtual meeting applications, preferable Zoom, Google Workspace, or Microsoft 365

Additional Information:

This is a part-time casual position classified as non-exempt. The offered pay is based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
