Salus University is seeking qualified applicants for a Full Time Instructor for the Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Department. The program resides in the College of Health Sciences, Education and Rehabilitation (CHER) that also includes programs in occupational therapy, physician assistant, blindness and low vision, post-baccalaureate, biomedicine, and orthotics and prosthetics.

In this position, you will engage in student supervision, teaching, clinical and community service activities to advance the education and training of students enrolled in the SLP master's program as well as additional programs as developed. In addition, you will contribute to the educational process and program development in accordance with the standards, principles and scope of practice set forth by the American Speech-Language-Heating Associate (ASHA). This individual will provide service to the program, college and university by participating in committee work as needed and assigned. Finally, you will advance the general body of knowledge of the SLP profession through the scholarship of teaching, clinical practice, and continuing education.

What You Will Bring to Salus:

As a full-time faculty member at Salus, your expertise and love of teaching and learning will inspire master's level students as they develop into future practitioners. In this position, you will serve as a faculty with the primary function of clinical supervision in the on-campus speech-language pathology clinic, provide course instruction across the lifespan in-person and via on-line/hybrid teaching and clinical activities as well as assist with designing, implementing, and refining the SLP graduate program(s).

As an Instructor, you will adhere to the creation, development and implementation of course syllabi using standardized university policies, procedures and formats. In addition, you will participate in the admissions process for the SLP graduate program(s) as well as adhere to the creation, development, and implementation of course syllabi using standardized university policies, procedures and formats. In this role, it will be your responsibility to evaluate student performance by developing competency-based standards, student learning outcomes, and formative and summative evaluations, serve as an academic advisor for SLP graduate students and also assure the availability of remedial and advanced instruction based on student educational needs.

As a faculty member of the SLP department, you will utilize state-of-the-art technology and software to provide didactic education and clinical training, develop a clinical or basic science line of research with the goal of: research funding; opportunities for student involvement; and professional presentations and publications at state, regional, national, and international conferences, and also, assist in writing annual accreditation reports and postings to the SLP/CHER website announcing faculty and student accomplishments.

Finally, you will help to effectively market the SLP program(s) to various constituents throughout the university and across local, national and international communities by participating in community-based service projects, programs and organization as well as complete other duties as assigned by the Department Chair/Program Director, and Director of Clinical Education.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders
  • ASHA Certification in SLP (CCC-SLP) and eligibility for SLP Licensure in Pennsylvania
  • Minimum 6 years clinical and/or teaching experience in selected area(s) of expertise in an institution of higher education

Desired Skills and Abilities:

  • Preference given to individuals with clinical, teaching, and/or research expertise in a broad range of experiences with the evaluation and treatment of adult and geriatric populations. Expertise in the areas of aphasia, brain injury, cognitive-communication disorders and neurogenic disorders
  • Knowledge of content delivery methods including web-supported classes (e.g., Blackboard) and distance learning
  • Excellent oral and written communication, computer skills, and knowledge of clinical/didactic computer applications
  • Team-building, organization, time-management, and leadership skills
  • Experience networking with various academic disciplines to promote interprofessional education and practice among faculty and students
  • Active participation and/or leadership in local, regional, national, or international SLP organizations
  • Terminal degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders (Ph.D. or Ed.D.)
